Squirrels are our youngest and newest section comprising boys and girls aged 4 to 6 who::
- Come together and share a story
- Use the story as a theme for activities, games and adventures
- Make friends and grow in confidence
- Are curious about the world around them
- Can learn new things and earn badges to show their achievement
- Play games and have fun
Every week, Squirrels gather in their groups which is called a Drey. This is an hour long on a Saturday morning from 9.30 – 10.30 and parents are welcome to stay if they feel their child needs support.
We will be based mainly at the Scout Hut, but there may be times when we go out and about to explore the world.
The Scout Group does get involved in special events throughout the year such as St George’s Day Parade, Remembrance Service and village events. We also take part in fund raising such as the Annual Sponsored Beach Clean and Christmas Post. Squirrels and their families will be invited to take part in these too along with the other Sections.
Like all of our Sections, new young people can intially come along for a few weeks to try things out. Then if they decide to stay they will join us officially by making a promise, receiving their Uniform and it is at that point that Subs payments become payable at £15 per month.
The Squirrel Scout Promise is very simple e.g. “I promise to do my best, to be kind and helpful and to love God” (there are amended versions for people of other faiths or of no faith).
All our Sections receive scarf and badges as part of their subscription but in Squirrels we have taken the decision to also provide the bright red uniform top as well.
Online Scout Manager is the database we use to keep records of the young people’s progress, publish events, keep badge records and contact details right up to date. If your child is a member of 1st Ferring and you have not been sent a unique link to access your child’s “Myscout” records on Online Scout Manager, email our administrator and a new email with link can be sent to you.
